What is Sashiko?

Sashiko is a traditional embroidery technique that was originally handed down in the Tohoku and other cold regions of Japan.

It is said to have originated in the practice of sewing several layers of cloth together to make clothing warmer and sturdier.

Today, the original role of stitching as protection against cold and reinforcement has faded, but the stitching technique is still used for decorations such as kitchen cloths and cloths, and has been passed down through generations.
