Learn the basics of hand embroidery, including the supplies, terminology and some of the basic stitches. Bring a design you’d like to translate into stitching, or practice on some fun, vintage designs. Stitches covered will include: Outline Stitches, Lazy Daisy, French Knots and more.

required supplies:

  • Background fabric - 1/2 yd. of a light colored cotton. Solids or muslin are easiest to work with.
  • Hard, sharp pencil or a permanent pen like .01 Pigma Pen
  • Pins
  • Mixed pack of embroidery needles, size 3-9
  • Regular sized Scissors
  • Small embroidery scissors
  • Embroidery threads: bring a variety threads to experiment with. Some of your options include: six strand embroidery floss, perle cotton in size 8 or 12, or other 12-weight cotton threads. We will talk about the differences between these in class. Bring a variety of colors to play with. The shop has plenty of choices for you to try.
  • Embroidery hoop - 5”-6” in diameter
